FACULTY OF SCIENCE
Students who have fulfilled the requirements for a 3-year BSc Biology program, with an overall average of 70% in the last two years and at least a 70% average in the five senior Biology and Medical Sciences courses which make up the area of concentration, with no mark less than 60% in those five courses can proceed to one of the honors programs, provided the necessary course prerequisites (listed below) for that program have been completed at a "B" level.
Students who have fulfilled the requirements for a 3-year BSc Biology program but who do not fulfil the requirements specified for admission, may be allowed to proceed to an honors degree in one of the disciplines of Biology or Medical Sciences only with the special permission of the appropriate Department.
Effective September 1, 2003, students who enter Year 4 Honors in any of the following five programs may only graduate with a Four-Year Honors BMSc. degree:
The requirements of these programs remain the same (see the Department listings for details).
Students who enter Year 4 Honors in the following eight programs will continue to graduate with a Four-Year Honors B.Sc. degree:
Some honors programs have limited enrolment. Students are advised to consult with a Biology or Medical Sciences counsellor for information on programs in which the number of applications for admission may exceed the number of available spaces.
See Biochemistry Department listing for additional prerequisites
Note: The Year 1 Mathematics requirement for this program, for students entering from the BSc Biology program is as follows: Mathematics 030, or Calculus 050a/b plus one of the following: Calculus 051a/b, 081a/b, Linear Algebra 040a/b, Mathematics 028a/b.
Completion of the requirements for the Three-Year BSc in Biology with the general prerequisites for entrance into honors programs in the Biological Sciences.
Completion of the requirements for the Three-Year BSc in Biology with the general prerequisites for entrance into honors programs in the Biological Sciences. it is recommended that some of the program's requirements, including Biology 284a and 366b, be taken prior to Fourth Year.
It is very important for potential Ecology and Evolution honors students to consult the program's advisors in choosing appropriate courses during their second and third years. All fourth year programs should be approved by a program advisor. Students should consult the Department of Biology to obtain an advisor.
Completion of the requirements for a Three- Year BSc in Biology, or Biochemistry and Chemistry, or Chemistry, or completion of the third year of a Bachelor of Medical Sciences program with the general prerequisites for entrance into honors programs and the following additional prerequisites:

Chemistry 223b, 224a, 234b, Biology 305a, Biochemistry 380b (formerly Biology 380b), 381a (formerly Biology 381a), 382b (formerly Biology 382b), Biology 387a.
Note: Potential Plant Biochemistry and Molecular Biology honors students should consult the program co-ordinator, to ensure that appropriate courses are chosen, particularly for second and third year.
Completion of the requirements for the Three-Year BSc in Biology with the general prerequisites for entrance into honors programs in the Biological Sciences. See the Honors Zoology program listing for specific requirements.
Note: Potential Zoology honors students should consult a departmental counsellor to ensure that appropriate courses are chosen, particularly for third year. All fourth year Zoology programs must be approved by a departmental advisor.
All students should examine the prerequisites for courses they expect to take in subsequent years. A counselling service is provided in the Faculty of Science to assist students in selecting a program.
