| Description: Introduction to basic principles of planetary science, emphasizing the geology of planetary surfaces. Topics covered include the history of planetary exploration, current missions, basics of planetary astronomy and geology, and the geological histories and surface processes of bodies in the solar system. Laboratory exercises involve image processing, interpretation, and mapping. | Prerequisite(s): Physics 020 or 024 or 026; Earth Sciences 022a/b and 023a/b or the former Earth Sciences 020 or equivalent (see note). | Note: Courses equivalent to the former Earth Sciences 020 are any two of Earth Sciences 081a/b, 083F, 281b, or the former 082a/b, 085a/b. | 2 lecture hours, 2 laboratory hours, 0.5 course. | back to top |
