Social Work 2204 - Introduction to Social Work Practice
A conceptual, theoretical, and applied examination of Social Work framed within an anti-oppressive, multi-cultural, and ethical context. The communication lab offers a small group experiential means of learning foundation communication and interviewing skills. An examination of the different levels of social work practice concludes the course.

Social Work 2205 - Research Methodology and Statistics in Social Work
A study of methodological and statistical procedures to provide students with the basic skills needed to design and implement elementary research projects and to utilize research principles and results in their professional practice. The course is taught from a Social Work perspective and includes an introduction to the use of SPSS software for data analysis. (This course or its equivalent is a required course for admission to the Social Work program.)

Social Work 2280E - Intercultural Understanding and Communication in Multicultural Canada
This course describes and analyzes multiculturalism as a unique feature of Canadian society. The roots and dynamics of Canada's multiculturalism will be examined as will the issue of racism and the challenges involved in confronting racist attitudes and practices, especially in the human services' sector. Understanding and communication in a culturally diverse context will also be addressed, especially as regards human service workers.
