Note: Students unsure of their language level should contact the Department of Modern Languages about a placement test. In addition, all students, including first-year students, may obtain special permission to register in a higher course if they have sufficient background in the language.

Arabic 030, Arabic for Beginners
Description: An introduction to spoken and written Arabic with emphasis on the development of communicative skills. Intended for students with little or no previous knowledge of Arabic. Prepares students for progression directly to Arabic 250.
Antirequisite(s): The former Arabic 002, the former International and Comparative Studies 008. Those students with Grade 12U Arabic or OAC Arabic must consult the Department before registering for this course.

Arabic 250, Intermediate Arabic
Description: This course is designed to build upon skills in reading and speaking Arabic developed in earlier courses. Students will gain increased vocabulary and a greater understanding of more complex grammatical structures. They will be able to approach prose, fiction, and non-fiction written in the language.
Antirequisite(s): The former Arabic 020 and International and Comparative Studies 028.
Prerequisite(s): Arabic 030 or Grade 12U Arabic or the former OAC Arabic, Arabic 002, International and Comparative Studies 008, or permission of the Department.
4 hours, 1.0 course.

Arabic 300, Advanced Arabic
Description: Advanced grammar and composition along with reading of selected texts from the rich heritage of literature written in Arabic.
Antirequisite(s): The former Arabic 200.
Prerequisite(s): Arabic 250 or the former International and Comparative Studies 028, Arabic 020, or permission of the Department.
