Elborn College, Tel: (519) 661-2175 The Occupational Therapy program is an entry level professional master's program of academic courses and fieldwork placements. The program takes two calendar years of full-time study and the degree awarded is a Master of Science in Occupational Therapy. The curriculum is designed to promote scholarship and self-directed, life-long learning, integrating the theoretical content and practice skills essential for the education of a skilled, evidence-based occupational therapist. Occupational therapists work with clients who are unable to fully participate in their daily activities due to physical, emotional, or cognitive impairments. They assist these individuals to engage in those activities which have meaning and enhance the quality of their lives, and to become full participants in their communities.
Admission Requirements
Requirements for admission include completion of a four-year degree, or equivalent. A three year degree with additional courses, for a total credit of 20 courses, will also be considered. Thirteen of the courses must be at a senior level (100-499), with three to four of these normally at the 300 or 400 level. The following prerequisite courses must also be completed: Applicants for the Occupational Therapy program will be considered for admission based on their academic record in the last two years of their undergraduate degree (10 full or equivalent courses). A written submission outlining the applicant's experiential background will also be required. The form will be used to match fieldwork experiences to student interests and needs, and will be reviewed as an admission criteria in the case of students with equal grade point averages. Licensing
Licensing is a provincial matter. The governing and academic certification body is the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists. Applicants for registration must have successfully completed all academic and fieldwork requirements at a university program in Occupational Therapy and passed the National Certification Examination.
