FINANCIAL AID INFORMATION
Bursaries
Bursaries are non-repayable grants provided by various benefactors to assist students who demonstrate financial need. Bursaries normally range in value from $500 to $3,000. Bursaries are meant to supplement other sources of funding (such as government loans, bank loans, parental contribution and savings) students have for their education. Financial Assistance application forms are available on the Student Financial Services web site: www.registrar.uwo.ca/.
Work Study
Western offers a Work Study Program that helps students to meet their educational expenses. Part-time positions are available on campus during the academic year. To be eligible, you must be enrolled in at least a 60% course load in each term and demonstrate financial need. In most situations the maximum amount available is $1,000 per term or $2,000 from September to April.
The Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP)
OSAP Applications for UWO students are to be submitted to the Student Financial Services office. We encourage students to apply before June 30, 2004 to ensure your loan is available in September 2004. For more information on OSAP visit the OSAP website at http://osap.gov.on.ca. For information on other government assistance programs such as the Ontario Special Bursary Program (OSBP), the Part-time Canada Student Loan (PTCSL) program, Child Care Bursaries, and Bursaries for Students with Disabilities, visit the OSAP web site at http://osap.gov.on.ca
Out-of-Province Students
Apply for assistance through your provincial Ministry of Education. The aid provided is tenable at any recognized Canadian university.
International Students
International students may be eligible for consideration for bursary assistance. The Ministry of Employment and Immigration, however, requires that all international students show they have adequate resources before they may be admitted to Canada. Consequently, a bursary will normally be awarded only if there is evidence that circumstances have changed since arrival in Canada. Information about the Visa Student Bursary Program may be obtained from the International Student Advisor's Office, UCC 210.
