ADMISSION & PROGRESSION REQUIREMENTS - BACHELOR OF MUSIC PROGRAMS


Admission Requirements for the BMus (Honors) programs after Year I Music
For Honors Music Education:

Completion of Music 014 and Ensemble requirement; Music 020a/b with a mark of at least 70%; Music 021a/b, 024, 030F/G; one of: Music 031F/G, 230F/G, and 231F/G; Music 049a/b, 050a/b, 035a/b, 036a/b (or the former 055a/b, 075a/b), one non-Music elective; a weighted average of at least 70% and no mark less than 60% in Music courses, and a passing grade in the non-Music course.


For Honors Performance:

Completion of Music 014 and Ensemble requirement; Music 021a/b, 024, 030F/G; one of: Music 031F/G, 230F/G, and 231F/G; Music 049a/b, 050a/b, 035a/b, 036a/b (or the former Music 055a/b, 075a/b), one half-course Music elective, one non-Music elective; the recommendation of the department on the basis of a special audition; a weighted average of at least 70% and no mark less than 60% in Music courses, and a passing grade in the non-Music course.


For Honors Music History:

Completion of Music 014 and Ensemble requirement; Music 021a/b, 024; Music 030F/G with a mark of at least 70%; one of: Music 031F/G, 230F/G, and 231F/G with a mark of at least 70%; Music 049a/b, 050a/b, 035a/b, 036a/b (or the former Music 055a/b, 075a/b), one half-course Music elective, one non-Music elective; a weighted average of at least 70% and no mark less than 60% in Music courses, and a passing grade in the non-Music course.


For Honors Theory and Composition:

Completion of Music 014 and Ensemble requirement; Music 021a/b, 024, 030F/G; one of: Music 031F/G, 230F/G, and 231F/G; Music 049a/b and a mark of at least 70% in Music 050a/b, 035a/b, 036a/b (or the former Music 055a/b, 075a/b), one half-course Music elective, one non-Music elective; a weighted average of at least 70% and no mark less than 60% in Music courses, and a passing grade in the non-Music course.


Admission requirements for the BMus (Honors) programs after Year II Music
For Honors Music Education:

Completion of all courses specified for Years I and II of the program; a cumulative weighted average of at least 70% in Music courses; no mark less than 60% in senior Music courses, a passing grade in each non-Music course; a mark of at least 70% in Music 020a/b, and 269a/b and 270a/b, or the former Music 213 or 233.


For Honors Performance:

Completion of all courses specified for Years I and II of the program; a cumulative weighted average of at least 70% in Music courses; no mark less than 60% in senior Music courses, a passing grade in each non-Music course; a mark of at least 70% in Music 224 and permission of the Department on the basis of a special audition.


For Honors Music History:

Completion of all courses specified for Years I and II of the program; a cumulative weighted average of at least 70% in Music courses; no mark less than 60% in senior Music courses, a passing grade in each non-Music course; a mark of at least 70% in Music 030F/G, 031F/G, 230F/G, and 231F/G


For Honors Theory and Composition:

Completion of all courses specified for Years I and II of the program; a cumulative weighted average of at least 70% in Music courses; no mark less than 60% in senior Music courses, a passing grade in each non-Music course; a mark of at least 70% in Music 050a/b, 249a/b, 250a/b.


Progression Requirements for the BMus (Honors) programs

If a student fails to meet admission requirements, permission to proceed in an Honors Music program may be granted by the Dean on the recommendation of the Department concerned; special conditions on future registration may be imposed.

The basic progression and graduation requirement is completion of the previous year's approved program of study, with a weighted average of at least 70% and no grade less than 60% in Music courses, and a passing grade in each non-Music course.

The continued registration of a student ineligible to progress to the subsequent year of an Honors program will be restricted to courses required to complete the BMusA degree or the three-year BA (Music) degree.
