BACHELOR OF MUSIC WITH HONOURS IN MUSIC EDUCATION
Don Wright Faculty of Music - Music Program - Bachelor of Music
Students who intend to qualify to teach with Ontario teaching certification at the Honours Specialist level should enroll in the Honours in Music Education program. From a wide range of electives students may choose a comprehensive program or may specialize in elementary or secondary school vocal or instrumental music.
Admission Requirements
Six approved Grade 12U and/or M level courses including English (ENG4U) and recommendation of the Faculty on the basis of an audition and interview.
Students recommended for admission to the Bachelor of Music (BMus) programs take a Common First Year as described below.
Students not recommended for admission to the Common First Year of the Bachelor of Music (BMus) programs are automatically considered for admission to the first year of the BA (Music) program.
Proficiency equivalent to the Royal Conservatory of Music Level 6 Piano and Level 6 Music Theory are strongly recommended before entrance. Royal Conservatory of Music Certificates are not required. See Music 0914 under COURSES for information regarding the piano proficiency requirement.

*It is recommended that students who intend to register in the Bachelor of Music with Honours in Music Education program in year 2 are advised to elect Music 1802A/B as their 0.5 course from the Faculty of Music, and elect as both their 0.5 course from any Faculty and 0.5 course from a Faculty other than Music, courses in the same non -Music subject area that they intend to use as their second teachable subject.
Admission Requirements after Year I Music
Completion of Common First Year with a weighted average of at least 70%, no mark less than 60% in Music courses, a passing grade in non-Music courses, and a mark of at least 70% in Music 1802A/B.
Admission requirements after Year II Music
Completion of all courses specified for Years I and II of the program; a cumulative weighted average of at least 70% in Music courses; no mark less than 60% in senior Music courses, a passing grade in each non-Music course; a mark of at least 70% in Music 1802A/B and Music 2831A/B and Music 2832A/B or 1.0 course chosen from Music 2861A/B, Music 2871A/B, Music 2881A/B, Music 2873Q/R/S/T and Music 2880Q/R/S/T, or the former Music 2863Q/R/S/T, the former Music 2865Q/R/S/T, the former Music 2866Q/R/S/T, the former Music 2875Q/R/S/T, the former Music 2876Q/R/S/T, the former Music 2885Q/R/S/T, the former Music 2885Q/R/S/T.

Guaranteed Admission of Music Education Graduates to Western's Faculty of Education
Progression
If a student fails to meet admission requirements, permission to proceed in an Honours Music program may be granted by the Dean on the recommendation of the Department concerned; special conditions on future registration may be imposed.
The basic progression and graduation requirement is completion of the previous year's approved program of study, with a weighted average of at least 70% and no grade less than 60% in Music courses, and a passing grade in each non-Music course.
The continued registration of a student ineligible to progress to the subsequent year of an Honours program will be restricted to courses required to complete the general Bachelor of Music or the three-year BA (Music) degree.
