Overview
This Combined Degree Program will permit The University of Western Ontario students to earn a JD from Western and an MLS from the University of Auckland (Auckland) in 3˝ years, by attending Auckland for an exchange term and the remainder of the New Zealand academic year in the MLS program. Similarly, Auckland LLB students will be able to complement their New Zealand Law Degree by earning a Western LLM by attending Western for an exchange term and two additional terms.
JD/MLS Program for Western Law Students

Notes:
- Auckland will allow Western students to enroll in 700 (Masters) level courses under the current exchange agreement (subject to approval).
- The Western students must be in the top half of their class and have completed an Individual Research course with a grade of B+ or higher prior to the exchange term.
- The fees for Year 4 will be the usual Auckland international course fees for 700-level courses. Some students may be eligible for scholarship support.
- Eligible students may postpone the completion of their Year 4 700-level courses for up to two years from completion of Year 3.
- Students who elect not to continue to the MLS may graduate with the PGCertLaw upon completion of the Year 3 Law 788 and two 700-level courses.
- Students who successfully complete the two additional 700-level courses towards the MLS in Year 4 may transfer the credits towards the LLM under the JD(Western)/LLM (Auckland) Combined Program.
LLB/LLM Program for Auckland Law Students

Notes:
- Students will be admitted into the LLM level at the beginning of Year 5, contingent upon successful attainment of the full admission requirements by the end of the exchange term.
- The Auckland students must be in the top half of their class.
- Auckland will accept the Western LLM courses for their LLB degree requirements.
- LLM fees to be assessed for Year 5 – two terms LLM tuition at international rate.
- LLM funding available to students in this Combined Degree Program if they meet the criteria.
Once admitted into the Combined Degree Program, students will be required to meet the academic progression requirements of the school that they are attending. Similarly, students will have to comply with the student code of conduct and academic integrity requirements of that school.
Western students admitted to the Combined Degree Program will remain eligible under the normal Western rules for the Dean’s Honor List and to graduate with distinction.
Administration
Each institution will appoint a faculty member to serve as the Coordinator of the Combined Degree Program. The Coordinators will be responsible for admission decisions and the on-going operation of the Combined Degree Program. The Coordinators will attempt to maintain reciprocity in the number of incoming and outgoing students at the two schools.
Tuition (provisional and provided for information only)
Auckland students in the first term of the LLB/LLM at Western will, like other exchange students, pay regular tuition to Auckland. In their second and third LLM terms, they will pay tuition to Western at the same level as its other international students. Western students in the first term of the MLS at Auckland will, like other exchange students, pay regular Western tuition to Western. In their second term, they will pay foreign graduate school tuition to Auckland.
