Grammar, composition, oral practice. This course is designed for students beginning French, or having a limited knowledge of French. Note that students who have successfully completed Grade 11 French or equivalent cannot take this course for credit.

For students with little or no knowledge of French. This course meets the needs of students in scientific and professional faculties, and those envisaging graduate work, for whom a reading knowledge of French would be advantageous. This course introduces students to the practice of translation through a variety of stylistic exercises. In this hands-on course, students learn about translation methods and strategies, and reinforce their competence in French by comparing the structure of French and English.
