The UCC is Western’s town square. Here you will find a wide range of stores, services, recreational facilities and community-related events. Be one of the estimated 20,000 people who visit the University Students’ Council-administered facility each day.
One of the biggest draws in the UCC is the food!! Eat at Centrespot Cafeteria, Tim Horton’s, The Wave Restaurant or The Spoke Lounge and Tavern. Each offers good meals at favourable prices all day long.
The UCC is also home to a wide array of services that support Western’s community. The InfoSource, centrally located in the UCC Atrium, can answer most questions about the campus. As well, it administers many important services, including the student health plan and the student bus pass. The Student Development Services on the 2nd floor provides a range of services specially designed for students and offered at little or no cost. These include Career Services, Learning Skills Programmes, International Student Services, Psychological Services and much more. Student Health Services, located in the Lower Level, is a full-service medical centre and health counseling clinic – all students are welcome as patients. Finally, on the 3rd floor, the University Students’ Council (www.usc.uwo.ca), UWO’s undergraduate student government, offers a myriad of extracurricular activities and experiences for the entire Western community. Join one of its 180-plus clubs, attend a lecture, volunteer for a fundraising activity, or run for elected office – all this and more from the USC.
You need never leave campus for many of the products and services you need. Visit the Lower Level Shops and Services to buy a new computer, book a trip, buy a gift or grab a cup of coffee. There is also a Canada Post outlet, a copy and graphics services, a credit union, several bank machines, a variety and varsity clothing store, a bookstore for new texts and one for used, and a unisex hair salon. Finally, you can have your grad photos taken, visit a chiropractor, leave your child at the Flexible Daycare Centre, or fill a prescription at the pharmacy.
The UCC is also home to many recreational activities. You can gain new skills by volunteering with the campus radio station (CHRW), online TV station or campus newspaper (The Gazette). You can enroll in one of the many Carlie Brown University recreational learning courses, like guitar playing or mixology. Or you can take in a movie at Western Film, Western’s second-run movie house.
UCC – the centre of life at Western!
