Anthropology 1025F/G - Introduction to Sociocultural Anthropology
An introduction to the basic concepts used in the anthropological study of non-Western social and cultural institutions that focuses on the unity and diversity of human experience. Topics include: kinship, economics, politics, religion, and the present-day conditions of indigenous societies. The ethnography of various peoples is discussed.

Anthropology 1026F/G - Introduction to Biological Anthropology and Archeology
An introduction to aspects of biological anthropology and archeology which help us to understand the place of humankind in nature. Topics to be covered include heredity, human evolution and variability, archaeological method, the development of culture, the domestication of plants and animals, and the rise of civilization and the state.

Anthropology 2234F/G - Andean Prehistory
This course studies the prehistoric cultures of Andean South America. The arrival of humans and adaptations of early foragers and food producers will be surveyed. The rise of civilization and increasing social complexity will be traced through the archaeological records of Andean cultures including Chavin, Moche, Tiahuanaco Chimu and Inca.

Anthropology 2254F/G - Women in Prehistory
This course explores gender in prehistory and in the practice of archaeology. The biases that excluded women from standard accounts of human prehistory are reviewed and contrasted with the results of more recent approaches that enhance understanding of women’s role in the production and reproduction of past culture.

This course examines the dynamics of family and kinship cross-culturally in traditional and globalizing contexts. We will explore themes including variability in family form, marriage patterns, gender relations, household economics, historical change in family structure, and the effects of globalization and modernity on family structure and practice.
