Human Ecology 022F/G, Professional Perspectives
Description: Introduction to the philosophy of the human ecology professions in North America and the evolving concepts of human ecology as a field of study in higher education. Socialization toward professionalism will include the development of knowledge, skills and values appropriate to the profession.
Prerequisite(s): Registration limited to students in the Foods and Nutrition programs or by permission of the Department.

Human Ecology 033a/b, Design for Human Needs
Description: An exploration of the function of design and its basic elements and principles as they relate to clothing, textiles, shelter and furnishings. Physical needs, social/psychological factors, technology and commercial concerns will be addressed.

Human Ecology 122a/b, Clothing Construction
Description: A theoretical and practical treatment of clothing construction and garment fit. The apparel industry will be studied beginning with fibres and fabric and processing through to design, construction and marketing of clothing. In the laboratory component, students are required to learn various fitting and sewing techniques.

Human Ecology 255a/b, Communications
Description: A social-psychological analysis of communication theory in the context of interpersonal small-group and large-group dynamics. Group exercises to improve communication skills and to stimulate discussion. Assignments and laboratories to provide an opportunity to prepare and present information within a professional context.

Description: The study of clothing and human behavior from psychological, social and consumer perspectives. Concepts of clothing needs and clothing functions are combined with a focus on the roles of clothing in today's society.

Description: A study of the housing needs of individuals and families and how those have been met at different times in history, in different societies and particularly today in Canada, including discussions of housing design, urban planning, environmental issues and alternative housing.
