NEW ACADEMIC CHOICES
The University of Western Ontario is committed to ensuring that our students have the opportunity to expand intellectually through exposure to a variety of academic disciplines. New Academic Choices is a modular degree structure that provides the opportunity for undergraduate students to broaden their area(s) of study by combining modules from different Faculties and/or Departments, enhance their studies by focusing intensively on a specific discipline, and choose from even more areas of study than previously possible.
WHO
New Academic Choices affects undergraduate students who are in the following Faculties and Affiliated University Colleges: Faculty of Arts and Humanities Faculty of Health Sciences (School of Kinesiology, and Bachelor of Health Sciences) Faculty of Information and Media Studies Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry (Bachelor of Medical Sciences) Don Wright Faculty of Music (Bachelor of Arts) Faculty of Science Faculty of Social Science Brescia University College Huron University College King's University College
Students who are in the "old" curriculum must graduate no later than the Autumn 2008 Convocation.
HOW
The Common First Year (Students entering their first year in September 2004 and later) You will take 5.0 introductory courses and gain a broad knowledge of a variety of disciplines. By the end of this year you will be able to make an informed decision about choosing your module(s) based on your academic strengths and interests.
