ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE OPPORTUNITY
The Academic Excellence Opportunity (AEO) offers conditional admission to the Ivey Business School to outstanding students from secondary school. Applicants for the AEO are assessed on their academic record, extracurricular activities, achievements, leadership skills and essays. Applications are carefully reviewed and decisions are made on the basis of all data available and not solely on prior academic performance. Enrolment in this program is limited. All applicants must meet the admission requirements to Year 1 of The University of Western Ontario. Conditional admission to the AEO does not imply admission to Year 1 at UWO. Applicants are notified separately from the Registrar's Office concerning their admission to first year. Students interested in the AEO indicate Western on the Ontario Universities' Application Centre (OUAC) form as well as apply separately to the Richard Ivey School of Business by the OUAC application deadline of January 15. Applications are only available on-line at www.ivey.uwo.ca/hba. There is an application fee of $100.00 payable to the Richard Ivey School of Business. In order to be considered for admission, AEO applicants must possess at minimum: - Senior Matriculation with a minimum average of 90% including a credit in OAC mathematics or new Grade 12 "U" level Mathematics or equivalent. CEGEP students may apply during their first year of studies only;
- proven leadership skills as shown in performing arts, sports, student government or community service, and;
STEPS FOR ADMISSION TO HBA
Below are the progressions requirements for AEO students starting Year 1 at Western in September 2005. - Enrolment at Western or in one of the affiliated colleges in any faculty.
- Maintain an 80% average over 10.0 (5.0 each year) university courses with no failed courses.
- Enroll in 5.0 courses between September and April in each of Years 1 and 2
- Complete the equivalent of a U-level mathematics course, if not taken during high school.
- Complete at least one essay course through Western or through one of its affiliated colleges.
- Business 020 is recommended but not required.
- Demonstrate leadership, achievements, community involvement, and work experience.
- Enrolment in any degree. Students must register in a choice of modules which is appropriate for their degree. Studients registered in professional programs must take the required courses for Year 2 of that program.
- Take all senior (100 and above) and honors (200 and above) level courses.
- Take a minimum of three 200 level courses (Business 257 plus two 200 level courses).
- Take Business 257 between September and April and achieve a minimum of 70% final grade.
- Permission to register for a first year course in Year 2 will only be granted by the HBA Office under special circumstances.
- Demonstrate leadership, achievements, community involvement, and work experience.
