SCHOOL OF PHYSICAL THERAPY
Elborn College, Tel: (519) 661-3360 The School of Physical Therapy offers a Master of Physical Therapy (MPT) degree. The two-year curriculum includes 61 weeks of classroom/laboratory work and 29 weeks of clinical experience. The program will prepare students to function as entry-level physical therapists in a wide variety of practice settings. Students will graduate at the end of July of their second year and are then eligible to take the professional licensure examination. The program requires full-time study. Applicants should ensure that they are capable of being full-time students
Admission Requirements
Admission requirements include the following: - 4-year Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
- selected prerequisite courses or their equivalent (listed below)
- a standard letter of reference (ORPAS form)
- a letter verifying 50 contact hours (paid or volunteer) with individuals who are cognitively or physically challenged (ORPAS form), and
- a 100 word personal statement addressing the applicant's rationale for choosing this field of study (ORPAS form).
Applicants whose first language is not English must provide evidence of English language proficiency; the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing Service (IELTS) are recommended. Admission requirements are revised periodically and may change over time. Prospective applicants are advised to check the School's web site for the most current information. In the event of questions, applicants should contact the School of Physical Therapy for clarification.
Prerequisite Courses
The following courses are required. Course numbers reflect sample courses at UWO. - 1 full course in Human Physiology (e.g. UWO Physiology 020, 021, 130, or equivalent)
- 1 full course in general or introductory Science chosen from the following subjects: Biology (e.g. UWO Biology 022, 023, or the former 026, or equivalent);
Physics (e.g. UWO Physics 020, 024, 026, 028a/b and 029a/b, or equivalent);
Chemistry (e.g. UWO Chemistry 020, 023, or equivalent.
Note: Either the Human Physiology or the above listed Science course MUST have a laboratory component. - 1 half-course in English with an essay component
- 1 half-course in Statistics, Research Methods, or Research Design (e.g. UWO Health Sciences 201)
- 1 half-course in Social Science
- 1 half-course in Liberal Arts

Licensing
Physical Therapists must be licensed or registered in order to practice physical therapy in Canada. Registration requirements vary in each province with some including successful completion of the Physiotherapy Competency Examination.
