BMSc PROGRAM

Only 4-year BMSc degrees are offered: Honors Bachelor of Medical Sciences and Bachelor of Medical Sciences (4-year) degrees. There is no 3-year BMSc degree.

The Honors Bachelor of Medical Sciences (BMSc Honors) degree:

This degree must contain one of the following Honors Specializations: Biochemistry, Biochemistry & Cell Biology, Clinical Biochemistry, Medical Biophysics (Medical Science concentration), Medical Sciences, Microbiology & Immunology, Pathology & Toxicology, Pharmacology and Toxicology, Physiology, Physiology & Pharmacology.
OR
two of the following Majors: Anatomy and Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Medical Biophysics, Medical Sciences, Pharmacology & Toxicology, Physiology.


The Bachelor of Medical Sciences (BMSc) degree
This degree must contain one of the following Specializations: Biochemistry, Medical Biophysics, Medical Sciences, Microbiology & Immunology, Pathology & Toxicology, Pharmacology & Toxicology, Physiology, Physiology & Pharmacology.

Entry into Year 2 of a BMSc degree, effective May 1, 2006:

As of May 1, 2006, registration in second year of a BMSc degree will be limited and competitve. In subsequent years, registration in third and fourth years of a BMSc degree will be limited and competitive. Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee either admission or continued registration in a BMSc degree.

Students may elect to complete one Major module and/or a Minor module(s) offered by the Basic Medical Science departments in a degree other than a BMSc degree. For example, a student may obtain a BSc (Honors) degree with a Major offered by one of the Basic Medical Science departments and a Major chosen from either the Faculty of Science or another faculty. Alternatively, a student may elect to pursue a 3-year BSc with a Major offered by one of the Basic Medical Science departments.


Academic Counselling

Counselling for specific courses or modules offered by the Basic Medical Science Departments is available in the individual departments. The Basic Medical Sciences Academic Counsellor is located in the Dean's Office, Faculty of Science, for thoses students requiring couselling about the Medical Sciences (not discipline-specific) modules. Students in Year 3 and 4 of BMSc degrees should consult the Basic Medical Sciences Academic Counsellor. First-year students and students in Year 2 with modules other than Medical Sciences, should consult the Joint Counselling Team in the Dean's Office, Faculty of Science.
