HONORS SPECIALIZATION IN MEDICAL SCIENCES

Enrolment in this module is limited. Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee that students wishing to progress in this module will be offered enrolment. Students should consult with a BMSc Counsellor prior to selecting 300 level courses.


Admission Requirements

Completion of first-year requirements with no failures. Students must have an average of at least 70% in 3.0 principal courses, including Biology 022 or 023, Chemistry 020 or 023, plus 1.0 additional course, with no mark in these principal courses below 60%.

1.0 course from: Chemistry 213a/b and either Chemistry 223b or a 0.5 course in Chemistry at the 200 level, or Chemistry 273a and 283G, or the former Chemistry 253.
0.5 course from: Biology 244a/b, Statistical Sciences 222a/b
1.5 courses: Biology 281b, 282b, 290F/G
1.0 course: Medical Sciences 400E
2.0 courses* from: Anatomy and Cell Biology 309, 319, Biochemistry 380G, 381a, 382b, Epidemiology and Biostatistics 330b, Medical Biophysics 302E, 303E, 330F, 331G, Microbiology and Immunology 220a, 221a/b, 357a, 360b, 361G, Pathology 240a, Pharmacology and Toxicology 355a/b, 356a/b, Physiology 312, 313y, 314a, or the former Physiology 310.

* These 5.0 courses from the Medical Science Disciplines (see definition above) have been divided into two groups. When selecting courses from the two groups, at least 2.0 must be from one Discipline and 2.0 from a second Discipline. The remaining 1.0 course may be from any of the Disciplines.

Progression requires a minimum average of 70% in the above 200-level Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, and Statistics courses.

1.5 courses with laboratories, numbered 200 or above, from the Medical Science Disciplines, Biology, or Chemistry must be completed prior to entering the final year of the module.

Students are advised to consult with the BMSc counsellor prior to selecting 300- and 400-level courses to ensure that appropriate prerequisite courses have been selected.
