Course Description

Chemistry 374a Introduction to Quantum Mechanics

Development of the basics of quantum mechanics, including the postulates, operators, eigenfunctions, eigenvalues, stationary states, and the theory of angular momentum. Applications to quantum-mechanical tunneling, the harmonic oscillator, the rigid rotator and the hydrogen atom, with further applications to spectroscopy and molecular orbitals.

Antirequisite: Physics 351a.
Pre- or corequisite: Applied Mathematics 290a or the former Applied Mathematics 281a.
3 lecture hours, 1 tutorial hour, half course.
This course is restricted to students in any Honors Chemistry Program.
