HONORS PROGRAM IN FILM STUDIES
Admission Requirements
Students who have obtained at least 60% in Film Studies 020E, with a 70% average in their principal courses and no failures will be admitted to the program. Students with an average of 65-69% in their principal courses may be admitted to the program with the permission of the Department. Counselling is mandatory for students with an average between 65-69% and is strongly recommended for all other students.
Program
For an Honors Degree in Film Studies, students must have 20 full-course equivalents; after Film Studies 020E, nine of these must be senior Film Studies courses. No more than one full-course equivalent at the 100 level may be counted towards the degree. Students who do not achieve a 70% average, with no mark less than 60% in their principal courses at the end of the third year, may be admitted to fourth year of the Honors Program only by permission of the Department of Film Studies. The distribution of Honors Film Studies courses is as follows: Students are required to take four senior full-course equivalents according to the following distribution: a) Key Topics in Film Studies: At least 1.5 senior courses from: Film Studies 255E, 256F/G, 275F/G, 295F/G, 370F/G c) Other: At least 2.0 full-course equivalents from other senior courses in Film Studies. These may include: i) Any other senior Film Studies courses not listed above: Film Studies 152F/G, 154E, 158F/G, 210F/G - 229F/G, 257F/G, 279F/G ii) Any senior Film Studies courses not already chosen from the above optional course offerings iii) Any other senior Film Studies courses cross-listed with courses offered by other departments iv) Any other senior film-related courses offered by other departments or faculties and not cross-listed with Film Studies. These courses must be approved by the Undergraduate Chair of the Department of Film Studies in consultation with the Film Studies Committee.
