FOUR-YEAR BSc HONORS PROGRAMS
Students may choose one of the four programs in Applied Mathematics or one of the joint programs in Honors Applied Mathematics and Computer Science, Honors Applied Mathematics and Geophysics (Environmental Modeling), Honors Applied Mathematics and Statistics, or Honors Applied Mathematics and Statistics in Environmetrics. The program in Honors Applied Mathematics and Statistics is designed for students who will seek employment in industry after completion. Students may enter third year Applied Mathematics from second year Physics or from second year Computer Science if they have, or can make up, the required prerequisites. Interested students should consult the Department for further information. Students should consult the Department before choosing their principal or subsidiary options. This is particularly important since there may be prerequisites to satisfy in later courses in their programs. With the approval of the Department, other principal course options may be substituted. The Department also participates in the Five-Year BSc Honors Mathematical Sciences and Bachelor in Education Concurrent Degree Program (see MATHEMATICS).
THE APPLIED QUANTITATIVE INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (AQIT) PROGRAM
The AQIT program is a program administered jointly by the Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Mathematics, and Statistical and Actuarial Sciences Departments. It is designed to provide a broad background in the mathematical sciences in the first two years, and to allow specialization through informed choice in the following two years. The objective is to efficiently prepare students with the basic mathematical, statistical, and computational training and skills that are in demand in industry. An industrial advisory board, made up of members representing a wide range of application areas, provides guidance concerning the structure and evolution of the program. The AQIT program requirements are given below, following the Applied Mathematics Honors Programs. Interested students are invited to look at the web site: www.aqit.uwo.ca/ for more detailed examples of AQIT programs. Students are encouraged to pursue industry internships following the second and/or third year of the AQIT program.
