COMBINED HONORS PROGRAM
Admission Requirements
To be considered for admission to the second year of the Combined Honors program in MIT and another approved subject, a student must meet the minimum admission requirements for both participating programs. For the MIT portion of the degree, a student must achieve a minimum overall weighted average of 75.0% in 5.0 full-course equivalents numbered 001-099, with no unsatisfactory attempts. The selection process for admission to the second year of the Combined Honors program is based on a student carrying a full course load, including the MIT first-year prerequisites. Eligibility is determined by a student's overall weighted average obtained at the end of the academic year. In cases where the number of applicants exceeds the number of spaces, admission will be competitive. Attainment of the minimum admission requirements does not guarantee admission.
Progression Requirements
To progress in the MIT portion of the Combined Honors program, a student must achieve a minimum overall weighted average of 72.0% in the MIT courses taken in each academic session, with no unsatisfactory attempts. If no MIT courses are taken in the academic session, the student must achieve the progression requirements for the other half of the combination.
Graduation Requirements
To graduate with a four-year BA Combined Honors in MIT and another subject, a student must meet the graduation requirements for both subject areas. For the MIT portion of the degree, a student must achieve a minimum overall average of 72.0% in the senior MIT courses counted towards the degree, with no unsatisfactory attempts.
Program Requirements
First Year
- Five courses from 001-099, including Computer Science 031a/b, Media, Information and Technoculture 025a/b and 026a/b . A first year program must also include at least one course from two of the Faculties of Arts, Science and Social Science. Courses should be selected from at least four different subject areas with no more than two courses in the same subject area. The distribution of MIT courses is as follows:

- 1.0 MIT full-course equivalent electives at the 200-499 level
- 2.0 full-course equivalents as specified by the other subject area
- 1.5 full-course equivalent options
Note: Students who have successfully completed a research methods course as a requirement for another program are not required to complete MIT 245a/b or 301a/b. Students enrolled in the four-year Combined Honros BA in MIT and another subject may, if they wish, substitute up to 1.5 approved full-course equivalents relevant to the study of media,information and technoculture from other disciplines. Such courses must be approved by the MIT Academic Advisor in consultation with the Associate Dean. Examples would include courses on the visual, historical, political and/or social aspects of media, information technologies and communication or theoretically-informed courses that are useful to further an understanding of the intersection of media, information techologies and culture. Specific examples of such courses are availabe from the FIMS Dean's Office.
PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS PRIOR TO SEPTEMBER 2002

To progress to the third and fourth years of the Honors program, a student must: - achieve a mark of at least 60.0% in each course listed as a principal course by the program and an average for those courses of at least 70.0%; and
- achieve a passing grade in each course listed as a subsidiary course and, if more than one subsidiary course was taken, an average of them of at least 60.0% in each academic session.
Graduation Requirements
To graduate with a four-year BA Combined Honors in MIT and another subject, a student must meet the graduation requirements for both programs. For the MIT portion of the degree, a student must achieve a minimum overall weighted average of 70.0% in the 20.0 courses counted towards the degree, with no unsatisfactory attempts.

After first year, a student must complete 6.0 full-course equivalents in MIT in addition to the number of courses specified by the other subject area and additional electives (usually 3.0 full-course equivalents). Students in the BA Combined Honors program may count up to 1.5 full-course equivalents from a list of approved alternates towards the MIT elective requirements. The distribution of MIT courses is as follows:
