CLASSICAL STUDIES
Admission Requirements
First Year
Classical Studies 047 (or the former Classical Studies 027E) and 2.0 other courses as principal courses. With the permission of the Department of Classical Studies, a student who has not taken Classical Studies 047 (or the former Classical Studies 027E) may enter the program.
Second, Third and Fourth Years
After the first year the program consists of 8.0 Honors Classical Studies courses, Latin 022 and 222 or Greek 022 and 222 (unless taken in first year), and 1.0 Honors Latin or Greek course. Students are strongly urged to take at least 1.0 course in each language. Students must select at least 1.0 course from each of the areas of classical history and literature and at least 1.0 from classical art, archaeology, or philosophy. The following courses meet the requirements for the various areas in the honors program in Classical Studies:
Minor In Greek and Roman Archaeology
Classical Studies 047 is recommended but not required for this program. With permission of the Department, students may have the Classical Studies 047 requirement waived in those senior level courses for which it is normally a prerequisite. Appropriate course subsitutions may be made with the permission of the Department.
