THREE-YEAR BSc CHEMISTRY AND GEOLOGY

This program is designed to provide the student with a basic background in both Chemistry and Earth Sciences. This program is advantageous for those interested in environmental studies.

Students may qualify for admission to the fourth year honors program in Geology, provided that a 70% average has been obtained in five senior Earth Sciences courses, with no mark less than 60% in those courses.


Admission Requirements

A first year program that includes Chemistry 020 with a minimum mark of 60%, or Chemistry 023, with a minimum mark of 70%; 1.0 course from Earth Sciences 081a/b, 083F/G, or the former Earth Science 020, 082a/b, 085a/b with a minimum mark of 60%; Mathematics 030, with a minimum mark of 80%, or Calculus 050a/b plus one of Calculus 051a/b or 081a/b, or Applied Mathematics 026. Physics 020, 024 or 028a/b and 029a/b, or the former Physics 022 or 025.


Second Year

Note: Students who do not meet the course requirements may be allowed to proceed into the third year of the program only with the special permission of both departments.


Third Year

Note: Students should choose their senior Science options carefully, in consultation with both departments, in order to retain the possibility of transferring from this program to the third year of either Chemistry or Earth Sciences programs, or to the fourth year of an Honors BSc program in the Earth Sciences. Students must have their course selection approved by each department.

The Area of Concentration will consist of the 9.0 senior-level Chemistry and Earth Sciences courses which are specified in second and third year.
