THREE YEAR BA
Admission Requirements

A mark of at least 60% in German 030 or 030w/x or the former German 002 or 002w/x or permission of the Department.


Program

5.0 senior courses in German. These will normally consist of German 200 or 200w/x; 250E, and 3.0 additional language and literature courses chosen in consultation with the Department.


FOUR YEAR BA
Admission Requirements

A mark of at least 60% in German 030 or 030w/x or the former German 002, 002w/x or permission of the Department.


Program

After the completion of German 030 or 030w/x, the program consists of German 100F/G, 101F/G, 200 or 200w/x; 250E, 292a/b, 293a/b, at least four of the half-courses German 300F/G, 311F/G, 322F/G, 333F/G, 392F/G, 395F/G plus 1.5 courses from among such areas as Comparative Literature and Culture, Visual Art History, History, Economics, Political Science, or Philosophy for a total of 7.5 courses.


HONORS PROGRAMS
Admission Requirements

First year program in Arts, Science, or Social Science, with German 030 or 030w/x or the former German 002 or 002w/x and two other courses as principal courses. Students who take German 030 or German 030w/x in the first year will normally take German 200 or 200w/x concurrently with their other senior second year courses. Students may also take both German 030w/x and 200w/x in the first year (if offered) and proceed directly to the honors courses in their second year.


Third Year Abroad

Western has exchange programs with the University of Düsseldorf and several universities in Baden-Württemberg. Students may spend their third year abroad in Germany if they have reached the admission requirements. Scholarships are usually available on a competitive basus.

Note: Students in combined programs need the permission of both departments.


GERMAN LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE
Second Year
Principal Courses

German 205F/G, 250E, 292a/b and 293a/b (if German 200 or 200w/x is taken in first year). If German 030 or 030w/x is taken in first year, second year principal courses are German 200 or 200w/x and 205F/G. In this case, German 250E, 292a/b and 293a/b may be taken concurrently by special permission from the Department.


Subsidiary Courses

Third and Fourth Years
Principal Courses

German 250E, 292a/b, and 293a/b (if not taken in second year) and additional courses at the 200- or 300-level as required to make a total of 9.0 senior courses in the three senior years.


Subsidiary Courses

3.5 options

Note: In addition to the 9.0 Honors German courses in the three senior years, other German courses may be taken as options. With permission of the Department, German 100F/G and German 101F/G with a minimum mark of 80% can be counted towards the Honors German Programs.


COMBINED HONORS PROGRAMS

Approved Combinations: Anthropology, Classical Studies, Comparative Literature and Culture, English, Film Studies, French, Greek, History, Latin, Linguistics, Media, Information and Technoculture, Philosophy, Political Science, Religious Studies, Russian, Sociology, Spanish, Visual Arts, or Women's Studies.
