SUMMER ENGINEERING CO-OP PROGRAM (SECOP)
The Summer Engineering Co-Op Program (SECOP) is offered by the Faculty of Engineering to assist undergraduate students in finding career-related summer employment. This program complements the Industry Internship Program (IIP) and will allow students the opportunity to gain practical work experience during the summer months. This optional program is available to all full-time undergraduate students in the Faculty of Engineering who enrol with Engineering Career Services and maintain a 65% average, have a solid academic record, have completed a Preparation and Training Workshop and are returning to Engineering full-time during the following academic year. Students interested in SECOP must apply on-line in the fall of the year in which they wish a summer placement. Students who accept a summer engineering co-op placement will receive a transcript notation (ES 150, ES 250, ES 350, ES 450 – depending on their year of registration) in the summer term in which they participate. Admission Requirements
Undergraduate students must be registered full-time in an Engineering program and be returning to fulltime engineering studies the following year. Students must enrol on-line or through Engineering Career Services and must maintain a 65% average, have a solid academic record, and attend a Preparation and Training Workshop. Once approved by the Faculty, they must apply for the summer positions on-line. Once students have been offered and have accepted a summer position through SECOP, they will be registered in one of the following courses for the summer term in which they work. The transcript notations include: ES 150 "Engineering Summer Co-op" - after first year ES 250 "Engineering Summer Co-op" - after second year ES 350 "Engineering Summer Co-op" - after third year ES 450 "Engineering Summer Co-op" - after fourth year (This is restricted to undergraduate students doing a five year degree program)
The above courses will provide non-academic credits and appear on the student’s transcript as SAT or FAI. In order for a student to receive SAT on their transcript they must meet the following conditions: satisfactorily complete their summer engineering co-op placement; have a performance review completed by their SECOP supervisor; and submit a written report outlining the work done and career-relevant experience. All postings for SECOP positions will be reviewed by Engineering Career Services to ensure that they are engineering-related employment opportunities.
