SPECIAL STUDENTS

Students who have completed the requirements of a 3-year Bachelor Degree, but are not eligible to enter fourth year of the Honors Psychology Specialization (see fourth year admission requirements above) may apply to graduate with the three year degree so that they may pursue further studies in Psychology by registering as Special Students. Special Students may enrol in any 100-level Psychology course, but will be admitted to 200-level Psychology courses only if they have a graduating year average of 60% or higher. In addition, Special Students who wish admittance to courses numbered 300 or above must have completed the appropriate prerequisite course(s) and obtained a mark of at least 70% in those prerequisites. Students should also be aware that priority for all honors courses is given to students in the honors degree. Special Students may not take Psychology 485E; however they may take an Independent Study course if they have an "A" average in their final 5.0 courses. Special Students seeking to obtain graduate training in Psychology are advised to complete a minimum of 9.0 Honors Psychology courses prior to applying to a graduate program (including those courses taken in the 3-year program). It is strongly recommended that such students who wish to apply to the graduate program at Western include the following courses: Psychology 280E; Psychology 281; two of the following Research courses: Psychology 302F/G or the former Psychology 306F/G; Psychology 317F/G; 322F/G; 336F/G or 387F/G; 356F/G; 361F/G; 370F/G; 380F/G; 382F/G. If you wish to apply to a graduate program at another university, consult that university for advice on their admission requirements.

Note: Special Student status does not automatically lead to an honors degree. Special Students who are seeking admission to an Honors degree, must have their record adjudicated and their intended program of study approved by the Department and the Dean's Office.
