OTHER METHODS OF PAYMENT - SPECIAL CATEGORIES

If for any reason, fees can not be paid by the due date, the following special categories may be used to complete registration.

Certain professional programs require that fees are paid by certified cheque/money order and therefore the following special categories do not apply. Specific payment instructions and due dates are provided with the statement of account.

Students Using Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) and Other Provincial Student Loan Assistance Programs To Pay Fees

Students wishing to pay their fees through OSAP must apply for funding before June 30, 2004 and loans must be picked up by September 16th, 2004 from Student Financial Services. If your OSAP/Government student loan entitlement has been confirmed, the minimum payment is deferred until you pick up your loan in September. (Visit the OSAP website at http://osap.gov.on.ca to confirm your loan entitlement). Students are responsible for paying any outstanding balance that is not covered by their loan by the due date on their statement of account. Failure to do so will result in a late payment charge.

Students applying for OSAP after June 30, 2004 will not be granted a fee deferment without penalty based on OSAP and will be expected to pay the minimum payment by the due date on the statement of account. Failure to make payment by the due date will result in a late payment charge.

External Sponsors

Students whose fees will be paid by an external sponsor must provide proof of funding for each session to Student Financial Services-Office of the Registrar prior to the deadline on the statement of account. In order for the University to bill the agency, the letter must include sufficient information such as: name of the sponsor, amount of the award, billing address and student's name and student number.

Students are responsible for the payment of any fees which exceed the amount allowed and paid by the sponsor.

Scholarship Recipients (University-Administered)

Scholarships administered by The University of Western Ontario will be applied towards the second installment of tuition fees owing. Students are responsible for the payment of any fees which exceed the amount of the scholarship by the due date. Funds in excess of the required fees will be refunded by cheque and mailed to the student.

Faculty Dependant's Scholarship Tuition Plan

Qualified students should submit their applications to Student Financial Services. Applications can be downloaded from the Office of the Registrar's web page at www.registrar.uwo.ca. Scholarships will be automatically applied towards outstanding tuition fees for UWO students only. Students are responsible for the payment of any fees, which exceed the amount of the scholarship by the due date. Where fees have been paid in full at registration, prior to the scholarship processing, a cheque will be mailed to the student.

PMA Eligible Dependant's Tuition Scholarship Plan

Qualified students should submit their applications to Student Financial Services. Applications can be downloaded from the Office of the Registrar's website at www.registrar.uwo.ca. Scholarships will be automatically applied towards any outstanding tuition fees. Students are responsible for the payment of any fees which exceed the amount of the scholarship by the due date. Where fees have been paid in full at registration, prior to the scholarship processing, a cheque will be mailed to the student.

External Scholarships

External scholarships not administered by UWO may be used to defer, without penalty, a portion of tuition, or complete tuition, if the scholarship funds are forwarded directly to UWO from the external sponsor. Confirmation from the external agency must be forwarded to the University, before the deadline stated on the statement of account. Confirmation must include the following:
- the name of the award
- the value of the award
- the recipient's name and student number
Students are responsible for the payment of any fees, which exceed the amount of the scholarship by the deadline date.

The University does not defer tuition, without penalty, for registered education savings plans such as USC or CST.

Senior Citizens' Bursary

Contact Student Financial Services Office of the Registrar for information. Also see SENIOR CITIZENS in the ADMISSION section.

Special Fee Deferments

In special circumstances, if a student is unable to pay the required fees by the fee payment due date, they should to go to Room 190, Stevenson-Lawson Building to make deferment arrangements. Fee deferments are not granted for full fees. Special deferments are available to students on the basis of proven financial need.

All special deferments are dependent upon a previously established good credit rating with Student Financial Services. Therefore, students who are taking their first course at Western will not be considered for a deferment.

Note: If Student Financial Services have agreed to a deferment of fees, a late payment penalty may still be applied. Deferments may be cancelled if a student fails to comply with the terms of the deferment or new information is introduced regarding the ability of a student to pay outstanding fees.
