Telephone: (519) 661-2136 The Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering offers an accredited program in Mechanical Engineering. In preparation for a career in Mechanical Engineering, the program at Western endeavours to balance the theory and applications necessary for the spectrum of work situations. The first year courses are common with all other disciplines in Engineering. The second and third year courses focus on the fundamental areas of Mechanical Engineering. In the fourth year, students are given an opportunity to select electives in areas of interest or specialization. The program focuses on a broadly based Mechanical & Materials Engineering education that stresses: fundamental engineering concepts, contemporary design practices, development of interpersonal skills, and interaction with engineering practitioners.
