Admission Requirements

Principal Courses

Statistical Sciences 023a/b+
One full course equivalent, chosen from the following: Calculus 050a/b plus 051a/b (or 081a/b with a mark of at least 85%) , or Applied Mathematics 026.
Linear Algebra 040a/b*
Any other full course equivalent

Subsidiary Courses

Two courses (of which at least one full course must be from Arts or Social Science)

*If Linear Algebra 040a/b is not taken in first year, it must be taken prior to the second term of second year with a minimum mark of at least 60%.

+If Statistical Sciences 023a/b is not taken in first year, students should consult with an academic counsellor in the Department of Statistical and Actuarial Sciences prior to entering second year.

Second Year

Principal Courses

Actuarial Science 223a, and either 221a/b** or 225a/b**
Statistical Sciences 257a
Statistical Sciences 259a/b plus one of 260b, or the former Statistical Sciences 255, 258a/b
Mathematics 203b**, 207a/b
Either Calculus 250a/b plus 251a/b, or the former Mathematics 204a plus 205b

Subsidiary Course

One half course (Linear Algebra 040a/b if not taken in first year)*

**Students may postpone until third year one half course: either Mathematics 203b or whichever of Actuarial Science 221a/b and 225a/b is selected. The postponed half course would be considered an additional third year principal course in such a case.

Third and Fourth Years

Principal Courses

Actuarial Science 327a/b and 329b
Two half courses from: Actuarial Science courses at the 400 level, Statistical Sciences 420a/b, 421a/b;
Mathematics 217a/b, 306a/b;
Mathematics 307a/b;
One additional half-course in Mathematics numbered 200 or above (Applied Mathematics 261b or 325a/b or Differential Equations 215a may be subsituted);
Two additional half-courses in Mathematics numbered 300 or above;
Statistical Sciences 325a/b, 357a, 358b, 359a/b, 361a/b.
Each of the above courses will be considered as a principal course in the year that it is taken. At least 3.0 principal courses must be taken in each of the third and fourth years.

Subsidiary Courses

Three other full course equivalents, to bring the total number of courses taken in each year up to five courses.
Note

To satisfy prerequisite requirements, the above courses must be taken in an appropriate order. Students should consult both the Departments of Mathematics and Statistical and Actuarial Sciences before registering.
