Origin of geological time scale. Pre-Darwinian concepts of development of life on earth. Darwinian evolution and modern concepts of evolution. Genetics and evolution: mode and rate of evolution. A survey of the vertebrate fossil record with focus on particular groups including hominids. Major extinction events in the fossil record. |
