Spanish (AC)
Note: Students unsure of their language level should contact the Department of Modern Languages about a placement test. In addition, all students, including first-year students, may obtain special permission to register in a higher course if they have sufficient background in the language.
Spanish 1030 - Intensive Spanish for Beginners
Introduction to understanding, speaking, reading, and writing Spanish with emphasis on oral skills. Intended for students with little or no previous knowledge of Spanish. Prepares students directly for Spanish 2200 or 2200W/X.
Antirequisite(s): The former Spanish 002 or 002w/x.

Spanish 2200 - Intensive Intermediate Spanish
A systematic review of grammar, largely oral, combined with an introduction to several literary genres drawn from both Spain and Latin America. Oral practice and review of language are supplemented by a required weekly language laboratory.
Antirequisite(s): Spanish 2222E, 2223, 2223W/X or the former Spanish 020, 020w/x, 022E, 023, or 023w/x.
Prerequisite(s): Spanish 1030, 1030W/X or Grade 12U Spanish or the former OAC Spanish or the former Spanish 002 or 002w/x with a minimum standing of 60%, or permission of the Department.

Spanish 3300 - Advanced Spanish Language
Further development of oral and written skills with systematic acquisition of vocabulary and selective grammar review. Based on a multimedia and communicative approach, this course aims to develop fluency. Discussions, readings, and writing will focus on the cultures of Spanish-speaking countries.
Antirequisite(s): The former Spanish 131, 201, 231.
Prerequisite(s): Spanish 2200, 2200W/X or 2222E, or the former Spanish 020, 020w/x or 022E with a minimum standing of 60%, or permission of the Department.
