HONORS SPECIALIZATION IN HEALTH INFORMATION MANAGEMENT (HIM)

Intended for students who wish to acquire a health knowledge base in the general operation of the health care system and the role of health information in providing effective strategies for delivery of health services to the public. Enrolment in the Honors Specialization in Health Information Management is limited to 30 students per year.

NOTE: No new admissions will be accepted for 2008-09. Commencing September 2008, the Honors Specialization in Health Information Management will be phased out, beginning with second year. Students enrolled in the module must complete their requirements for graduation by September 2010.

Admission Requirements

Completion of first-year requirements with no failures. Students must have an average of at least 70% in 3.0 principal courses, with no mark in these principal courses below 60%, including:

Health Sciences 1000 or the former Health Sciences 021.
Biology 1222 or 1223 or the former Biology 026.
1.0 course from: Anthropology 1025F/G, 1026F/G, 1027A/B, Psychology 1000, 1200, Sociology 1020, 1021E.

Students are advised to consult with an academic counsellor prior to selecting their first-year courses to ensure that the appropriate prerequisite courses have been selected to allow registration in courses at the 2000 level or above.

4.0 courses taken in second year: The former Health Sciences 2100F/G, Health Sciences 2300A/B, the former 2400A/B, Health Sciences 2450A/B, 2600F/G, 2610F/G, the former 2800.
1.0 course normally taken in second year: Physiology 2130.
2.0 courses taken in third year: Health Sciences 3100F/G, 3110A/B, 3200A/B, 3620A/B.
0.5 course taken in third year: Health Sciences 3700A/B, 3711A/B.
0.5 course taken in third year: Pathology 3240A.
1.0 course normally taken in third year: Business Administration 1220.
0.5 course taken in third year: Pharmacology and Toxicology 2060A/B.
