FOUR-YEAR BSc HONORS ECOLOGY AND EVOLUTION
Admission Requirements
Completion of the requirements for the Three-year BSc in Biology with the general prerequisites for entrance into honors programs in the Biological Sciences. It is recommended that some of the program's requirements listed below, including Biology 284a and 366b, be taken prior to Fourth Year.
Note:
It is very important for potential Ecology and Evolution honors students to consult the program's advisors in choosing the appropriate courses during their second and third years. All fourth year programs must be approved by an Ecology and Evolution program advisor in the Department of Biology.
Fourth Year
All fourth year course selections must be approved by the co-ordinator of the Ecology and Evolution program. The fourth year program consists of 5.0 principal courses, at least 2.0 of which must be at the 400-level. These 5.0 courses must fulfill the requirements outlined in each of the three sections listed below. (Students who have completed 1.0 or more of these courses prior to entry into Fourth Year must take at least 4.0 courses from those listed below. In such cases, a maximum of 1.0 option course may be taken, but it must be at the 200-level or above.)
1. Evolutionary Biology. 2. The Diversity of Life. 3. Additional Areas of Focus. FIVE HALF COURSES FROM AT LEAST THREE OF THE FOLLOWING SIX AREAS OF FOCUS: i. Community & Ecosystem Ecology: ii. Population & Physiological Ecology: iii. Behavioural Ecology: v. Quantitative & Theoretical Ecology: Biology 320Z, 450F/G, 499E, Biology 457Z / 458Z (formerly Zoology 420y/421y), the former Biology 452a.
Note: Students planning to enter fourth year Honors Ecology and Evolution are required to choose their courses in consultation with the program coordinator.
