HONORS SPECIALIZATION IN COMPUTER SCIENCE

The Honors Specialization in Computer Science leads to a Computer Science degree that is accredited by the Computer Science Accreditation Council, the academic arm of the Canadian Information Processing Society. This specialization, in combination with the department's Minor in Software Engineering, leads to degree that is accredited by CSAC as a Software Engineering degree.

Admission Requirements

Completion of first-year requirements with no failures. Students must have an average of at least 70% in 3.0 principal courses, with no mark in these principal courses below 60%, including:

Computer Science 025a/b or 026a/b or Engineering Science 036a/b or the former Computer Science 036a/b;
Computer Science 027a/b or 037a/b (in either case with a mark of at least 65%);
and 1.0 course from: Calculus 050a/b, 051a/b, 081a/b, 091a/b, Linear Algebra 040a/b, Applied Mathematics 026.

Module

9.0 courses:

5.5 courses: Computer Science 208a/b, 209a/b, 210a/b, 211a/b, 212a/b/y, 305a/b, 307a/b/y, 331a/b, 340a/b, 342a/b, 350a/b
1.0 course: Mathematics 222a, 223b
0.5 course: Writing 101F/G
0.5 course: Computer Science 490Z
1.0 additional course in Computer Science at the 400 level
0.5 course from: Statistical Sciences 222a/b, 241a/b, 257a, Biology 244a/b

Note: Students who are also pursuing the Software Engineering Minor or the Game Development Minor must take Computer Science 470y or 480y respectively. If either minor is taken, Computer Science 490Z must be replaced in the Honors Specialization with a 0.5 course in Computer Science at the 400 level

Students completing this specialization must include at least 5.0 courses offered by departments other than Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Mathematics, and Statistical and Actuarial Sciences in order to graduate. This rule can be modified for students who combine the Honors Specialization in Computer Science with modules offered by Applied Mathematics, Mathematics, or Statistical and Actuarial Sciences; these students must consult the Department of Computer Science.
