HONORS PROGRAM


Admission Requirements

First year program in Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Science or Social Science including Sociology 020 or 021E and four other courses as principal courses. At the end of the first year, students must have an overall average of 70% with no mark less than 60%. Students may be admitted to the Honors Sociology program after their second or third year provided they have all of the following:

  1. an overall average of 70% with no failures in the last ten previous courses;
  2. a 70% average with no mark less than 60% in their principal courses after first year;
  3. an average of 70% in all Sociology courses beyond Sociology 020 or 021E.

Students are encouraged to enrol as honors students as soon as they are eligible. It is expected that Honors Sociology students will take their principal courses at Western: the former Sociology 230, Sociology 240E or 270a/b and 271a/b, the former Sociology 231 or Sociology 205a/b and 206a/b, 300a/b, 302a/b, 404F/G and all other Honors requirements at the 300-400 level.


Second and Third Years

    Sociology 231 - required in second year
    Sociology 300a/b and 302a/b - required in third year
    The former Sociology 230 or Sociology 240E or 270a/b and 271a/b
    Three additional full courses in Sociology (or their equivalent) at the 200-level
    Four options.
