HONORS PROGRAM


Admission Requirements

First year program in Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Science or Social Science with a 020E-099E level History course and two other courses as principal courses.


Progression Requirements

To be eligible to progress in the Honors History program, each student must achieve at least 70% in two of the three mandatory history courses at the 200-level (History 234E, 236E and either History 231E or 232E or 233E).

In addition, students must have an average of at least 70% in the three mandatory courses with no grade less than 60%.


Program

After the first year, nine Honors History courses, as principal courses, and six options, approved by the Department, are required for a degree in Honors History. These courses must include:

    History 234E, 236E, and one of History 231E or 232E or 233E, all three to be taken before the beginning of the fourth year

    One course in British or European History (other than History 236E)

    Of the nine Honors History courses, at least two must be at the 300-level and at least two must be at the 400-level.

    The 200-level courses are intended primarily for students in their first year of the honors program, 300-level courses are primarily for students in their second year of honors study, and 400-level courses are for students in their final year of honors study.

    Classical Studies 275E (Greek and Roman History) may be counted as a principal course towards the honors degree.

Students are advised to consult the Academic Calendar carefully for the prerequisites for all courses. Students wishing to concentrate on a particular area should seek advice from the Department.
