PhD IN LEGAL PHILOSOPHY

The Ph.D. in the Field of Moral, Political, and Legal Philosophy will commence as soon as this new Field is approved by the Ontario Council on Graduate Studies. The Field is intended for students whose interests lie in or across its constitutive sub-disciplines. Students in the Field are expected to avail themselves of the wide variety of graduate courses offered in moral, political, and legal philosophy. Those whose primary interests lie in philosophy of law may be permitted to take some courses in the Faculty of law, and students with interests in political philosophy may be permitted to take graduate courses in political theory offered by the Department of Political Science. Students in the Field sit a comprehensive examination that covers both the common historical foundations of moral, political, and legal philosophy and contemporary material in the sub-disciplines of their particular interest, and they write a dissertation on a topic in the Field. Supervision is available for a wide variety of dissertation topics in moral, political, and legal philosophy, including historical and feminist perspectives.
