SPECIALIZATION IN BIOCHEMISTRY


Admission Requirements

Completion of first-year requirements, including Chemistry 020 or 023 and Biology 022 or 023, each with a mark of at least 60%.


Module

9.0 courses:
(Because of prerequisite requirements, it is recommended that the courses be taken in the order presented.)

0.5 course: Biochemistry 280a
0.5 course: Biology 281b
0.5 course from: Biology 244a/b, Statistical Sciences 222a/b
1.0 course from: Chemistry 213a/b plus 223b, Chemistry 273a plus 283G or the former Chemistry 253
1.0 course from: Biology 282b, Biology 290F/G, Chemistry 211a/b, 214a/b (or the former Chemistry 224a and 234b), Chemistry 274a, 284b (or the former Chemistry 254)
1.5 courses: Biochemistry 380G, 381a, 382b
0.5 course at the 200 or 300 level (with a lab component) from: Microbiology and Immunology 220a, Medical Biophysics 330F or from the Department of Biology or Chemistry.
1.0 course: Biochemistry 410a, 420b
2.5 courses from: Biochemistry 385a, 386b, 400F, 430b, 440a, 445F/G, 450a, 463G, 465a

Notes:

1) Enrolment in Biochemistry 381a requires a minimum of 65% in Biochemistry 280a; and an average of 65% in Chemistry 213a/b and 223b or 60% in Chemistry 273a and 283G or the former Chemistry 253

2) Enrolment in Biochemistry 380G requires a minimum mark of 70% in Biochemistry 280a.

3) Enrolment in Biochemistry 445F/G is limited.

4) Students are recommended to include at least one of Biology 290F/G, Chemistry 214a/b, or Chemistry 284b

5) Chemistry 274a is a prerequisite for Chemistry 284b
