FOUR-YEAR BA IN COMPUTER SCIENCE AND MEDIA, INFORMATION & TECHNOCULTURE


Admission Requirements

To be considered for admission to the second year of the four-year BA in Computer Science and MIT, a student must achieve a minimum overall weighted average of 70.0% in 5.0 full-course equivalents numbered 001-099, (including the principal courses for the program) with no unsatisfactory attempts.

The selection process for admission to second year of the four-year BA program in Computer Science and MIT is based on a student carrying a full course load, including the principal courses required by both subject areas. Eligibility is determined by a student's overall weighted average obtained at the end of the academic year. In cases where the number of applicants exceeds the number of spaces, admission will be competitive. Attainment of the minimum admission requirements does not guarantee admission.


First Year

Computer Science 025a/b or 026a/b, and 027a/b, each with a grade of at least 60%; one full course or equivalent, chosen from the following: Mathematics 030, Applied Mathematics 026, Calculus 050a/b, 051a/b, 081a/b, Linear Algebra 040a/b, with a grade of at least 60% in each course or half course; Media, Information and Technoculture 025a/b, and 026a/b; 2.0 optional full-course equivalents; at least one half course must be taken from either the Faculty of Arts or the Faculty of Social Science


Second Year
Third and Fourth Years

Computer Science 209a/b and 212a/b/y (both to be taken in third year); The course from Media, Information and Technoculture 201F/G, 202F/G, 203a/b, and 204F/G not taken in second year; 4.0 MIT full-course equivalents at the 200-level or higher; 3.5 Computer Science full-course equivalents at the 300-level or higher; 2.0 full-course equivalent option


Progression Requirements

To progress in the four-year BA program in Computer Science and MIT, a student must achieve a minimum overall weighted average of 68.0% in MIT courses taken in each academic session, with no more than 1.0 unsatisfactory attempt in 5.0 full-course equivalents, and a minimum of 60.0% in the Computer Science and Mathematics courses taken in each academic session.


Graduation Requirements

To graduate with a four-year BA in Computer Science and MIT, a student must

1) achieve a minimum overall weighted average of 68.0% in the MIT courses counted toward the degree;

2) achieve a minimum overall weighted average of 60% in the Computer Science and Mathematics courses counted toward the degree;

3) complete at least 13.0 senior level courses at the 100-level or higher, at Western or one of the affiliated colleges.

Students admitted with advanced standing are required to complete at least 10.0 full-course equivalents at Western or one of the affiliated colleges.
