ES 021a/b, Properties of Materials in Engineering
Description: An introduction to the relationship between the microstructure and engineering properties of metals, ceramics, polymers, semi-conductors and composites.

Description: Analysis of forces on structures and machines, including addition and resolution of forces and moments in two and three-dimensions. The application of the principles of equilibrium. Topics: trusses; frames; friction; and centroids.

ES 050, Introductory Engineering Design and Innovation Studio
Description: Introduction to the principles and practices of professional engineering. The design studio fosters innovative thinking, improves problem solving, and provides context. Includes elements of need recognition, conceptualization, prototyping, and engineering design to satisfy commercial specifications. Emphasis on creativity, teamwork, communication and engineering skills necessary to practice in any engineering discipline.

ES 300y, Selected Experiments in Integrated Engineering
Description: The purpose of this course is to provide integrated engineering students with some of the practical technical aspects of mechanical engineering. The scope is three-fold. First, the students gain experience with the instrumentation and techniques used to quantify physical phenomena. Second, the skills required to analyse and present experimental data are developed and, third, the experiments provide physical expression of the concepts developed during lecture courses.
Prerequisite(s): CEE 202a/b, MME 204a/b, CBE 221a/b, or the former CBE 203b.
Corequisite(s): CBE 322a/b, MME 213a/b, Statistical Sciences 241a/b or 243a/b, enrollment in the Integrated Engineering program.
1 lecture hour and 1.5 laboratory hours, 0.5 course over two terms.

ES 466a/b, Technological Entrepreneurship and Innovation
Description: Topics include: the impact of technological innovation; a critical overview of selected emerging technologies; effective strategies for marketing new technologies; choosing an entrepreneurial career; and starting a new venture, including market research, business planning, team building, and financing. Students may be required to complete and present a detailed business plan.
Prerequisite(s): Registration in Year 4 of the Engineering program.
Pre- or Corequisite(s): Business 257 or 299, or permission of the department.
