Environmental Science 021F/G, Environmental Issues
Description: Topics include controversial environmental issues of current interest including global warming, hazardous waste, ozone depletion, endangered species, air and water quality, and deforestation. Classes will involve an introduction to the topics, and interactive discussion of the pros and cons of action on the issues.
Antirequisite(s): The former Environmental Science 021a/b.
Prerequisite(s): An OAC average (or equivalent entering average from other systems) of at least 85%. Priority will be given to student in their first year at Western.

Environmental Science 300F/G, Environmental Problems
Description: Topics will include: water pollution from toxic chemicals and biological sources; waste disposal and recycling of materials; other current pollution problems. Instruction and practice in library research and essay writing involving aspects of these topics.
Prerequisite(s): Biology 022 or Biology 023 or the former 020 and Chemistry 020 or Chemistry 023, and enrolment in third year of an Environmental Science program or special permission of the course coordinator.

Environmental Science 350F/G, Global Environmental Problems
Description: The scientific background to the origin and progression of worldwide environmental problems, especially climate change, and to their possible solution. Presentations include those by guest lecturers who are experts in the problem areas.
Antirequisite(s): The former Environmental Science 350a/b.
Prerequisite(s): Any Chemistry course or half course at the 020 level, and any 200 level course in Science, Geography or Engineering.

Description: Proposal, design, execution, analysis and interpretation, and written presentation of research in Environmental Science, under the direction of a faculty member and advisory committee approved by the Director of Environmental Science Undergraduate Programs.

Prerequisite(s): Enrolment in the Honors Specialization in Environmental Science.

Environmental Science 494F/G, Selected Topics in Environmental Science
Description: A detailed study of selected issues in environmental science with an emphasis on integration of perspectives and expertise from a broad range of disciplines as represented by the particular faculty and guest speakers involved in a given year. Understanding and communication of the concepts and controversies discussed will be the focus of the course.
Prerequisite(s): Enrollment in a 4th year honors program "with Environmental Science".
