Course Description

ECE 438a/b Introductory Computational Electromagnetics

Review of electromagnetic theory. Finite difference methods for static and time domain problems. Variational methods. Introduction to the finite element method: one- and two-dimensional cases for the Laplace, Poisson and Helmholtz equations using linear elements and triangular discretization. Higher order finite element method. Finite element method for non-linear problems. MSC/EMAS finite element modelling package.

Prerequisites: ECE 336a/b, Applied Mathematics 376a/b
3 lecture hours, 1 laboratory hour, half course.
