Course Description

Anthropology 243F/G Applied Linguistics

A review of applications of linguistic theory, with special emphasis on language teaching. Includes the organization and evaluation of language teaching; comparisons of first and second language acquisition in adults and children; the relevance of psycholinguistic and sociolinguistic research to language teaching and learning; theories of communicative competence.

Prerequisite: Anthropology 027a/b or Linguistics 288a/b or the former Anthropology 021 or the former French 288a/b or permission of the Department Chair.
3 hours, half course.
