Course Description

Earth Sciences 432a/b Geochemical Processes at the Earth's Surface

Use of chemical thermodynamic and kinetic principles to evaluate stability of solids in surface and ground waters, including waters containing pollutants. Topics include development of soil and weathering profiles, acquisition, transport, and accumulation of metals and non-metals in surface and subsurface environments. Reactions occurring in natural environments are emphasized.

Prerequisites: Earth Sciences 230b or 341a/b; or completion of any 200-level half course in Chemistry; or permission of the Department.
2 lecture hours, 1 tutorial hour, half course.
