Course Description

Political Science 411F Language and Politics

Using techniques of discourse analysis, the course focuses on the performance of persons, communities and structures as they express their positions. In so doing, it re-examines traditional analytic concepts such as law, power and hegemonic decision on the one side, and agency, identity, community, and representation on the other.

Antirequisite: Anthropology 411F/G
Prerequisite: Fourth year Honours standing in Political Science, or permission of the department.
2 lecture hours, 1 laboratory hour, half course.
