Course Description

Physics 308a/b Engineered Materials I

Low-dimensional systems: growth and characterization, adhesion, mechanical stability, phase separation, diffusion, overview of physical properties as function of dimensionality. Important systems: Ge/Si, III-V heterostructures, MBE, CVD and other techniques used in semiconductor growth, ion implantation, lithographic patterning techniques, bandgap engineering.

Prerequisite: Physics 208.
3 lecture hours, half course.
