Course Description

Mathematics 329a/b Introduction to Algebraic Curves

Geometry of algebraic curves over the rational, real and complex fields. Classification of affine conics, singularities, intersection numbers, tangents, projective algebraic curves, multiplicity of points, flexes. Some discussion of cubic curves.

Antirequisites: Mathematics 231 and the former Mathematics 319a/b.
Prerequisites: Linear Algebra 040a/b and 1.0 course in Mathematics or Applied Mathematics at the 200 level or higher.
3 lecture hours, half course.
