Course Description

Film Studies 247F/G Latin American Cinema

This course will examine New Latin American Cinema from its inception as a continental movement to its more disparate manifestations in the eighties and nineties. The notion of "Third Cinema"; social, political and economic factors of production; and questions of identity, ideology, gender, nationalism and history will be discussed.

Antirequisite: Film Studies 213F/G (as offered in 2000-2001).
Prerequisite: At least 60% in Film Studies 020E, and at least 60% in all subsequent Film Studies courses, or permission of the Department.
2 lecture/seminar hours, 1 3-hour lecture/screening, half course.
