FOUR YEAR BA

A mark of at least 60% in Comparative Literature and Culture 020 or permission of the Department.

Program

The equivalent of 7.5 courses in Comparative Literature and Culture at the senior level (i.e., courses numbered 100-499). No more than 2 full course equivalents at the 100 level can be counted.

HONORS PROGRAMS

First year with Comparative Literature and Culture 020 and two other courses as principal courses. French or a foreign language is strongly recommended as one of the principal courses. If a 020-level language is not taken in first year, it must be successfully completed by the end of the second year.

Students who have obtained at least 60% in Comparative Literature and Culture 020, with a minimum 70% average in their principal courses and no failures, will be admitted to the program.

Students who have obtained between 65 and 69% in their principal courses may be admitted to the program with the approval of the Department. Consultation with the Undergraduate Chair is mandatory for these, and strongly recommended for all other students.

Second, Third, and Fourth Years

1. Comparative Literature and Culture 204F/G and 205F/G (mandatory in second year).
2. a 020-level course in French or a foreign language (if not taken in first year)
3. a 020-level course in a second, non-English language (this requirement is waived for students who pass a 020-level reading test in this language)
4. an honors half-course in the untranslated literature of one of the non-English languages studied
5. at least one of Comparative Literature and Culture 236F/G or 240F/G
6. at least one of Comparative Literature and Culture 250F/G or 260F/G
7. at least one of Comparative Literature and Culture 270F/G or 271F/G
8. at least one of Comparative Literature and Culture 272 F/G or 273 F/G
9. at least one full-course equivalent at the 300-level in Comparative Literature and Culture
10. at least one full-course equivalent at the 400-level in Comparative Literature and Culture
11. three and one half additional honors courses in Comparative Literature and Culture. With the permission of the Department, up to one and one-half courses taken at the honors level in untranslated non-English literature, not including the half-course mentioned in line 4 above, may be substituted for any of the three and one-half additional CLC courses.

    With the permission of the Department, an undergraduate thesis worth a full credit (Comparative Literature and Culture 410E) may be substituted for one of the three and one-half courses mentioned in line 11 above. If approved, the thesis will be written in the fourth year and will be directed and marked by a member of the CLC faculty.
